The Role of a Professional Sports Coach in a Primary School Setting
Some people might ask, “Does a professional sports coach really make a big impact in schools?” The answer is simple – yes.
In many primary schools, sports coaches are not just instructors – they are role models, mentors, and motivators. Their influence extends far beyond the sports field, shaping children’s development in ways that can have a lasting impact on their confidence, teamwork, and overall well-being.
Roles of a Professional Sports Coach in a Primary School Setting can include:
1. Delivering Engaging and Active Sessions
2. Promoting a Healthy & Active Lifestyle
3. Developing Teamwork and Communication Skills
4. Building Confidence and Resilience
5. Providing Positive Role Models
6. Ensuring Safety and Well-Being
The presence of a Professional Sports Coach can have a huge impact on the development of children. On top of carrying out a bunch of active and engaging sports activities, our coaches play a key role in helping children grow into themselves as people, encouraging teamwork and building confidence in their abilities.
By keeping children engaged and active through a variety of games that focus on endurance, strength, coordination or balance, our coaches give children the chance to explore what they enjoy doing, leading to a little boost towards a healthy lifestyle. The primary school environment is also a perfect setting for children to work on their communication skills, so it’s a great opportunity for sports coaches to incorporate teamwork based activities into sessions and get children to support one another and learn how they can collaborate and communicate effectively – These activities extend far beyond a sports hall or field and can positively influence their behaviour in the classroom or even at home.
But as we know, sports games can also be challenging, like losing a match or running in a difficult race, so having a professional sports coach present to boost morale and encourage kids to be resilient to overcome those obstacles and learn from mistakes can help build a healthier mindset and teach children how to deal with those situations in a constructive way. On top of all, the safety of children is a main priority for professional sports coaches, ensuring children are participating in activities in a safe and structured environment, and teaching proper techniques to reduce the risk of injury so that the children can continue to enjoy the fun and benefits of sport.
At Ultimate Kids, we believe that professional sports coaches are a key body in a school. They provide a different type of role model who can create a positive, exciting environment for children to learn and grow in and out of PE lessons. This is something we preach at Ultimate Kids and we look forward to continuing developing these roles within our settings and working with new partners to inspire more children through lessons and sports.
