Benefits of taking a break for parents
Parents or carers, this one is for you.
Out of term time, while supporting children through our Ultimate Kids Camps is our top priority, it’s important as parents to remember to take time for yourself too! Constantly trying to find a balance between family life, work life, and our social lives can be difficult and can feel like a task in itself, but allowing yourself to spend guilt-free alone time away from the little ones can have a positive impact on your mental and physical health. We’ve all heard the saying that ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’, but what are the actual benefits of setting boundaries and taking some time for yourself?
1. Enhances Overall Wellbeing
Taking breaks gives us the time to reset and allow our bodies to relax. Bringing down the pace and taking a breather can have a calming effect on our bodies which can help us better manage stress and anxiety more effectively.
2. Gives You Some Quiet Time
Kids can be loud, full of questions, and only know the word “go”, so letting yourself find time away gives you the chance to hear your own thoughts and see to your own needs without feeling guilty.
3. Allows Time For You To Explore Your Own Hobbies
Whether it’s reading, watching a movie, meeting up with friends, or simply going for a walk, taking a break from the kids let’s you explore your own interests and connect with yourself again.
4. Opportunity To Enhance Your Social Life
Reconnecting with friends online or in person can help you feel like you’re part of a community, and having conversations with people your own age will be more stimulating and beneficial for your mental health.
5. Be present by creating limits
Building boundaries for your child is healthy and important for your relationship. Defining clear limits will also teach your child to be independent and will improve the quality of your connection.
In short, as parents you go through a lot everyday and it’s easy to forget to take a moment for yourself to recharge, so take this as a reminder to take a breather, set healthy limits, explore your interests, and enhance your social life! Don’t be so hard on yourself and try to make time to take a break this week.
