The Winning Play: Why Updated Staff Training and Communication is a Game-Changers

In the fast-paced world of sports coaching, staying ahead of the game isn’t just a goal—it’s a necessity and making sure your staff are aware of this is crucial. Whether you’re coaching a group of nursery children or seasoned professionals, the key to success lies not only in your expertise but also in how well you keep up with relevant training and communicate with your staff and the team around you.

This morning we had our School Sport Partnership Manager Liam McQueen present our School Staff Training for the Ultimate Kids Coaches – A productive and informative way to start our Wednesday. This was one part of our termly recap and updates we hold in house with staff to keep them on track and up to date with relevant information in regards to school and nursery sessions. While sat listening to Liam cover topics such as session profiles, school sport enhancement, coaching ethos and much more, it got me thinking about all the behind the scenes work that actually goes into being an Ultimate Kids Coach. It’s easy to assume that our coaches just rock up to a session, teach a sport, then go home. But for us, the reality couldn’t be further from this assumption.

I’ve worked at Ultimate Kids for around three years now, and since I have started it’s been hard to miss the attention to detail both Chris and Liam pay in terms of staffing and standards. ‘Quality coaches’ has always been on the forefront of their minds and regular Camp, School and Nursery specific training sessions are just one small part of ensuring our standards are constantly improving and we’re all on the same page.  We understand that the sports landscape is always evolving and that’s why we make it a priority to ensure that our coaches are always up to date with the latest training and communication between management and coaches is enforced and taking place every single day.

But why does this matter? Let’s break it down:

  1. Keeping Your Skills Sharp: Just like athletes need to train regularly to maintain peak performance, coaches need to sharpen their skills too. By participating in ongoing training sessions and scenario workshops, our coaches stay at the top of their game, equipped with the knowledge and tools to help themself and the children they teach reach their full potential.
  2. Adapting to Change: Sports are dynamic, and so are the strategies behind them. What worked last term might not work next term. That’s why it’s crucial for coaches to stay adaptable and open to new ideas. Regular training updates ensure that our coaches are always aware of the latest trends, schemes of work and activity updates, so they can adapt their coaching methodologies accordingly. This is especially important when we have new partners come on board as we are aware that different school/ nursery settings have different learning and behaviour styles.
  3. Fostering a Culture of Learning: At Ultimate Kids, we are a big believer that learning should never stop – there is no limit on what we can know or how well we can perform. By encouraging our staff to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, we foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement. This not only benefits our coaches but also translates to a better experience for the partners and pupils we work with.
  4. Enhancing Communication: Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful coaching. By maintaining open lines of communication with our staff, we ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards a common goal. Whether it’s sharing updates on training techniques or discussing strategies for upcoming games, regular communication keeps our team cohesive and focused. This is also something we promote to the partners we work with – Ultimate Kids communication between management, coaches, school staff, PE Coordinators and so forth is always a priority to make sure we maintain a healthy and clear relationship and work space.

So, what sets Ultimate Kids Coaches apart? It’s our commitment to excellence through ongoing training, preparation, systems and communication. When you choose us, you’re not just getting a coach—you’re getting a dedicated team of professionals who are always striving to be the best they can be. That is something we pride ourselves with.

So, if you’re looking for some support in your primary school sports or structured physical activity sessions in your nursery, then please do get in touch. But for now, I’ll leave you with a photo of today’s Ultimate Kids Training Team and we’ll catch up again with you soon!

Thanks,

Emily.
