We’re delighted to introduce Leo, who has just started his journey with us as a Community Sport and Health Officer apprentice at Ultimate Kids! If you spot him at a School PE lesson, one of our Ultimate Kids Camps, or just out and about at one of our Primary Schools or Nurseries, be sure to say hello and give him a warm welcome.

A Coaching Journey Rooted in Family

Leo’s passion for coaching has been shaped by lifelong exposure to the sport. Coached by his father in football throughout his childhood, he developed a strong understanding of effective coaching from an early age. This foundation was further strengthened through a family connection, which gave him his first opportunity to coach alongside an experienced mentor. With this early hands-on experience and previous experience working on our Ultimate Kids Camps, Leo enters his apprenticeship with a genuine head start and a clear sense of what good coaching looks like.

Developing Through the Apprenticeship

Leo is now working towards his qualification as a Community Sport and Health Officer, and he’s clear on why: he wants to make a real impact on children through sport. Leo views physical activity as a huge part of a child’s development, not just physically but in confidence and wellbeing too, and that belief is what’s driving him through this next stage of his coaching career.

His sporting interests are varied, with football, dodgeball, and badminton all sitting high on his list of favourites, giving him a nice range of games and skills to bring into his sessions.

Coaching Style and Strengths

What stands out about Leo’s approach is his balance between delivering genuinely fun sessions that are never at the expense of safety or structure. Leo is committed to keeping health and safety front and centre while applying strong behaviour management, making sure that every lesson isn’t just enjoyable but actually delivers results for the children taking part. It’s a mindset that shows real maturity for someone just starting his coaching career.

Looking to the Future

Leo has his sights set firmly on the future. His goal through this apprenticeship is to progress towards becoming a fully qualified PE teacher, whether that’s in a primary or secondary school setting. It’s an exciting ambition, and one that Ultimate Kids is proud to support as he builds his skills and experience with us.
