Ultimate Kids Camp: February Recap
Ultimate Kids Camp: February Recap
Hi everyone, we’re back with another recap of our latest Ultimate Kids Camp.
Our Sefton sports camps located in Seaforth and Formby both had a very successful February and we want to thank those who came along. This February we had a couple of changes to our camps, one being that we had to change venues – where both our team and you guys adapted to a new venue in Formby which was Formby High School. This changed payed off very well and from the feedback we have received so far, we found out that both parents and children preferred our new venue, which is great to hear.
Our new venue in Formby High School is now where will be operating going forward with our Formby Ultimate Kids Camps. If you have ever stumbled across this great venue, you may be familiar with the range of facilities on site, from their vast playing fields, specialised courses and large indoor space which allows for natural lighting – our coaches felt this improved the engagement and energy levels and thoroughly enjoyed this new venue. Thinking about our next camps, we’re excited to run our first Easter camp in Formby High. I (Kieran) know this venue very well, as 4 months of my teacher training was completed at this high school. Our confident and well experienced Formby Team are excited to make the most of this fantastic venue with its gigantic playing field and brilliant sports hall.
We had some new and familiar faces on both camps, this is always important for us as we let our seasoned Ultimate Kids show the high standards we set on our camps. It’s always exciting when we get to greet new children on our camps, as it allows a different dynamic of new personalities, this is great for social interaction and engagement amongst a mix of children who may already have friends on camp. We have watched so many new faces come out of their shell and new friendships blossom amongst the children on our camps which is great.
At the end of the camp week, we sent out some feedback forms to gather additional knowledge on what games and activities your children enjoyed the most. Here’s a little rundown of the game highlights from our new schedule which seemed to be a hit amongst both camps:
GAGA BALL
Gaga Ball was a new introduction on Formby camp thanks to coach Liam who first discovered this game via social media. Gaga Ball is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better, the ‘pit’ is made out of benches that are laid out on their side, children can knock the ball off a bench and if they get hit by the ball in the ‘pit’ then they’re out. This became an instant class on Formby and is much anticipated for the Easter Seaforth camp.
MONSTER BALL
Monster Ball was introduced on the Wednesday in our Seaforth Camp, although it was only introduced briefly on Wednesday it was a mainstay for the remainder of the week as the children got really engaged and competitive with this game. Monster Ball uses a yoga ball (the monster) and dodgeballs, children must move the monster into the other team’s box using the dodgeballs to win a point for their team. Children enjoyed the randomness and unpredictability of the game and dodgeballs flying off the monster in all directions. This game massively increased the energy of the camp on Wednesday morning and allowed both older and younger groups to engage with one another, which created a friendly social atmosphere which is what we always strive for.
CODE BREAKERS
Code breakers was an orienteering based game, allowing children to independently work in teams. The aim of code breakers was to collect all the letters that were scattered around different play areas, forested areas and open spaces, teams would have to use the letters available to come up with the word. To start, coaches gave the theme of the word, in this case the theme was movies, then towards the end with 5 or so minutes remaining, coaches would then say to teams the number of letters they must have, this was to ensure every team knew if they had found the letters or not. If no team had approached a coach and told them the answer, all teams would be brought in and get to give their final guess, in our game of codebreaker I obviously picked the greatest film of all time…. Shrek Two.
Overall, it was clear to see that the games selected for our February Ultimate Kids Camp went down a treat and with all the feedback from yourselves, we have already confirmed our schedule for our April (Easter) Camp and cant wait for you all to see what we’ve got to offer. Keep your eyes peeled…
New Upcoming Venues
Our Ultimate Kids Easter Camps are just around the corner, are you coming along? We have some very exciting news that our Easter Camps will be running in a confirmed additional 2 extra venues in Sefton, with a potential 3rd on the way also! So keep an eye out for some new venues that will be popping up around Sefton very soon.
Thanks guys, see you soon – Coach Kieran.
