Over the last year there has been a significant increase in primary aged obesity. The amount of children who were a healthy weight dropped between 2020-21 and 2019-20

Among reception children it fell to 71.3% from 76.1% and

Among year 6 pupils it fell to 57.8% from 63.4%.

What should your child be doing?

• Children should aim for 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a day across the week • Reduce the time spent sitting or lying down. Aim to spread activity throughout the day. All activities should make you breathe faster and feel warmer

What counts?

One way to tell if you’re working at a moderate intensity level is if you can still talk, but not sing. Examples of moderate intensity activities: Walking to school

Playground activities

Riding a scooter

Football

Walking the dog

Cycling
